Classes Classes at Hogwarts are taught in a variety of locations about the castle. Some, such as Charms, are taught in classrooms inside the castle. Others take place in the greenhouses (Herbology), in the dungeons (Potions), at the top of a tower (Astronomy), or even outside on the grounds (Flying and Care of Magical Creatures). A booming bell sounds throughout the castle and across the lawns to signal the end of class. |

The Great Hall Vast chamber with an enchanted ceiling that mirrors the sky outside. Four long tables for the four houses. Closest to the doors from the Entrance Hall is Slytherin, then Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and next to the far wall, Gryffindor (this order may possibly be reversed, depending on how you orient the room to the entrance hall). The teachers sit at the High Table, a table on a raised platform at the front of the room. A door behind the staff table allows a person to enter the Great Hall from outside without going through the main entrance. |

The Library The Hogwarts library contains tens of thousands of books on thousands of shelves. Included in its many sections is an Invisibility Section, a section with information about dragons, and a Restricted Section at the back, set off with a rope. A signed note from a teacher is required to peruse that section of the library; it contains books of Dark Magic only used by older students studying advanced Defence Against the Dark Arts. One of the books in this section screams when opened. |

The Whomping Willow The Whomping Willow is a very valuable, very violent tree planted alone in the middle of the school grounds. It was planted in 1971 to disguise the opening to a secret passage from Hogwarts to the Shrieking Shack. |

Quidditch Pitch Quidditch is big at Hogwarts. Each House fields a team, which includes the seven players and often one or two reserve players as well. The teams have a team captain who not only plays but also acts as coach. The captain leads practices, devises strategies, and sees to the induction of new players into the team. Quidditch tryouts are typically during the second week of the school year, although the exact day and time are up to the captain to determine. Sub-board: Quidditch News |

Hogsmeade Hogsmeade is the only entirely wizarding village in Britain. It's a picturesque village of little thatched cottages and shops. During the holiday season, enchanted candles hang in the trees. Hogwarts is located quite near the village; a road runs around the school grounds to Hogsmeade Station, where the Hogwarts Express stops to disembark the students at the start of term.
